"When I first saw Marty Gardner at a Ranch Roping about 5 years ago I was truly amazed at his Horsemanship skills. With the slightest cues his horse responded, a true partnership. This was the type of partnership I wanted with my horse. I wanted my horse to feel the cues with my body and not with my hands. I wanted my horse to be a bridle horse".
"Marty follows the vaquero method of teaching horses and instructing students. The Vaqueros took their time training their horses. This method of training takes alot of time and patience, but the end result is worth it. You and your horse are responsive and you become a true partner, like Marty is with his horses".
"Marty exemplifies a true Vaquero, and I hold him in the highest regards as a horseman. I highly recommend anybody who wants to achieve such a partnership with their horses to attend Marty's Clinic or Lessons"

"I first started getting lessons from Marty when he trained my 3 year old Appaloosa mare "Little Bits". After her training was done I went for lessons, we were both learning and I was very scared. The next summer Marty had found a big paint horse named "Frazer"for my mom, So we had a week long Horsemanship Clinic at our place. By the end of that Clinic, "Little Bits" and I were soul mates and we could lope a little bit. At that camp we learned alot about slack in the reins and about gaining trust between us and our horse. Then just a few weeks later we took our horses to Marty's arena, by then we were loping all over the arena, and we learned a bit harder stuff like, Leg Yielding.
Every year we have our Clinics we learn alot and have so much fun, Marty helps you to be confident and to have an amazing relationship with your horse. Marty has changed our family
in a way that is not just us having fun, but our horses to.
Now mom and Frazer are best buds, they bond really well and their riding is coming along Terrifically. As for "Little Bits" and I, I know how to act when she is misbehaving now, and "Little Bits" is the best Horse for me in the whole wide world thanks to Marty".

"Marty Is an Extremely Knowledgeable Horseman and has Fantastic communication skills that enables him to pass that knowledge on to the rider. We have enjoyed our horsemanship classes with him and he has brought our riding level up to a point where we no longer get frustrated at not being able to communicate with our horses.
Marty is also a great trainer. He took my 12 year old mare and tuned her up for the 2008 Team Penning Nationals, and we Won!! She is so soft now and dosn't run away on me. She is moving and listening well. She lopes off on the proper lead and can lead change. She was so afraid of the flag before we got her to Marty. Now she moves with the flag and is no longer afraid.
I recommend Marty to anyone who needs to upgrade their horsemanship or needs some training for their horse".

We wanted to buy our first horses. We wanted to get help with this and learn how to be partners with the horses we got. After trying several different riding instructors, we learned how to ride better, but we didn't learn anything about horses or connecting with them. We wanted horsemanship classes, but had a hard time finding them.
As circumstances would have it, we met Marty and Yvonne at a team sorting competition. We saw Marty ride
and we were impressed by the partnership and responsiveness he had with his horse, and with such light cues.
Marty is a true high calibre horseman and has a very effective and patient way of passing on his knowledge.
He helped us pick the perfect horses for us. Marty taught "ground work" exercises and how important it is to be safe by always checking our horses first before ever getting on. We are learning how to establish respect and a partnership with our horses. Marty is teaching us leg cues, knowing where the feet are and why timing is so important to "connect to their feet", how to keep our horses light, and about the "sweet a spot". Marty gives us what we individually need to work on to progress, both for ourselves and for our horses. He is great teacher for both people and horses, when the need arises, it is awesome to watch him so effectively help the horse to "figure out a better way"
We would not have the confidence, or the experience needed to own our horses, if it wasn't for Marty. We have a lot more to learn to be even half as good as him, and we will always look to Marty for more learning. We highly recommend Marty for every level and kind of horsemanship.

Marty has been instrumental in helping me transition from "horse lover" to " horseman". In early August 2008, I was in tears when I went to see Marty....my horse, Faith , and I had hit rock bottom... not only was our riding choppy and out of control, groominig had become dangerous as Faith had resorted to kicking and biting me almost every time I proceeded to touch her.
Marty was brave, honest and caring enough to tell me the problem was not with Faith. He helped me, in a magical patient way, to understand Faith was simply reaching out to me in desperation for leadership. He coached me to listen to Faith and respond to her in the right volume and timing that she would see me as a leader rather than the push-over I had been since she came into my life a year earlier. Thanks to our commitment and the knowledge we've all gained from our experiences, Marty, Faith and i have made huge strides.
I am confident by continuing to work with Marty, Faith and I headed for a life-time of soft, supple riding. Faith and I will forever be greatful to Marty for the huge impact he has had on the quality of our relationship and our riding.

When I fist saw Marty I thought to myself that he was the most authentic looking cowboy I had ever seen. Wondering what my summer was going to hold. Little did I know that it was going to be one of the most important summers of my young life. Marty is the most increditable horseman I know.
His ability to train horses and teach riders in such a gentle and understanding way is amazing. He helps to remove any fears that you may have of your horse, by creating a willing partnership between horse and rider. One of my favorite things Marty says is "Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard", this is so important in riding and everyday life. Just as many things are that Marty has to say. He cares so much about animals and people alike, Marty is simply a wonderful trainer, teacher, mentor and friend!
